1963, England. Christine Keeler, just nineteen, was having sex with the much older, and married, Secretary of War. To make matters worse, said nineteen-year-old was also having sex regularly with the Soviet Naval Attache. Resignations and even suicides followed. It was known as the Profumo Affair. It was an influence in my book, BRIGHT SHADOWS. It also inspired a good, but not nearly as good as it should have been, movie in the 80’s with Joanne Whalley called, appropriately enough, SCANDAL.
